There are times when we find ourselves alone—whether physically or emotionally—feeling overwhelmed and scared. Maybe it’s in the stillness of the night, when the weight of our fears feels the heaviest. In those moments, it can feel like no one sees or understands the struggle we’re going through. But there’s a profound truth in Matthew 6:6 that brings comfort: “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
When we close the door to the outside world, when it’s just us and God, something sacred happens. Even in our fear and uncertainty, God hears every whisper, every cry, every word we speak. I’ve had moments in my own life where I’ve felt utterly alone and scared. In those times, I’ve turned to prayer—not with perfect words or eloquence, but simply pouring out my heart. And it’s there, in the quiet of that conversation with God, that I felt His presence the strongest.
In those moments when fear grips our hearts, we may struggle to even find the right words. The beauty of Matthew 6:6 is that God doesn’t require perfect prayers. He just asks for sincerity—a heart willing to come to Him, even when we’re broken. When we’re scared, alone, or facing uncertainty, our prayers don’t need to be long-winded or filled with the right phrases. Sometimes, all we can muster is a soft, “Help me, Lord.”
But here’s the truth: even that is enough. God doesn’t need us to be strong. He wants us to come as we are—whether that’s afraid, anxious, or unsure. It’s in these quiet, intimate moments of prayer that He steps in. We may not see Him with our eyes or feel Him with our hands, but He’s there, listening and moving in ways we can’t always perceive.
I think about the times I’ve knelt in prayer, with nothing but fear to offer—those moments when life felt too big, the challenges too great, and the future too uncertain. Yet, in the silence of those prayers, I wasn’t alone. God was present, hearing every word, and calming my heart, even when my circumstances didn’t immediately change.
When we pray, it’s not just about speaking to God—it’s about trusting that He hears us, even when we can’t see the evidence right away. His rewards may come in the form of peace, clarity, or strength to face the challenges ahead. Sometimes, the reward is simply knowing we are never truly alone.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, knowing that You are near, even when we feel alone or afraid. Your Word reminds us that You see us, even in the secret places of our hearts, and You hear every prayer we lift to You. Thank You for being a God who listens, a God who cares, and a God who comforts.
Lord, in our moments of fear and uncertainty, remind us that we are never truly alone. Help us to trust You more deeply, knowing that even when our words fail, You understand the cries of our hearts. Give us the peace that only You can give—the peace that quiets our anxious thoughts and strengthens our faith.
Thank You, Father, for hearing us when we pray. Thank You for Your presence in every season of life, especially when we feel most vulnerable. We ask for Your guidance, Your comfort, and the assurance that You are always with us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
