I remember being told that I was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, I had a mother and a father, but their fate remains a mystery. Also, the lawyer who oversaw my parents’ adoption proceedings revealed that I was the youngest of five siblings.

Now I know that although the lawyer was not supposed to tell my mother about my family, he told her that I was the baby of five children. This small piece of information gave me a sense that I was connected to a larger family.

The details of what happened to my parents and brothers or sisters remain a mystery, lost in the folds of time. I have often wondered from time to time if I had brothers or sisters or a combination of siblings.

Even though my story is filled with unanswered questions I approach it with compassion and a caring heart as I recognize my deep desire for connection and understanding. As you walk alongside on my journey, let us embrace the uncertainties and strive to bring comfort and solace to the quest for knowledge and family bond.

My journey begins with Marie and Herman Scroggins whose hearts were filled with much anticipation and longing to embrace a baby in their lives. In a rural corner of Arkansas, amidst the Ozark mountains, this young couple eagerly awaited the arrival of a precious child.

In the face of adversity, Herman encountered an accident that left him unable to have children. Yet, love and devotion continued to bind him and Marie together. Marie’s unwavering commitment to Herman fueled her desire to marry him, regardless of the circumstances. They made a heartfelt decision to embark on the journey of adoption together, a testament to their shared vision of creating a loving family. With patience as their steadfast companion, Herman and Marie diligently prepared themselves for the arrival of their first adopted child.

They poured their hearts into building a home that would welcome their future children, creating not just one, but two dedicated rooms, as they had learned during the adoption proceedings that each child would need their own space. The knew that they would want to adopt another child in the future. This act of thoughtful preparation demonstrated the immense care and consideration they extended to their future family, ensuring that each child would find solace and belonging within their new home.

The long-awaited day arrived, brimming with joy and fulfillment, as all the necessary requirements for adoption were met. Amidst a heartfelt encounter with a compassionate lawyer, Marie and Herman’s lives were forever changed as they welcomed a precious 13-month-old baby into their arms. Their hearts overflowed with pure happiness, their dreams of parenthood finally materializing after a decade of longing.
